Big decisions...

I've been thinking about going back to school or back to work part-time for the past couple years. I could have gone back this year, because kindergarten here is all day long, but I wanted time to make sure Clay adjusted to kindergarten okay, and I wanted plenty of time to volunteer at the schools (also at Tessa's, since this was her first year at the middle school), and have lunch with them now & then too, and I wanted time for ME to adjust to having all my kids in school too. :) So, anyway, I felt like everyone was doing great & enjoying school & I felt like I had enough time that I can do something else now.

Last fall, I thought I would just go back to work part-time, so I sent out my resume to a bunch of title companies in the area. Within a couple of days, I had a lady call me back that was very interested in talking with me. She said that they were going to be expanding & could use some part-time help. Their office was only about 15 minutes away, and she said that I could do a lot of work from home. It sounded perfect. She said she was going to be making some changes in their office & would get back with me, but never called back. I wasn't too worried about it, because I figured if it was supposed to work out it would, and it wasn't like we NEEDED the money, I just thought it might be nice for me to have something extra to do for a few hours here & there and earn some extra money while I was at it.

So, then I started thinking about the nursing program at the college here & talked with a couple of ladies that have gone through the program (and one that is going through it right now). It scares me a little, since it's been about 17 years since I was in college, but I really think I'd like nursing & it would be something that has good pay & flexible hours (depending on what exactly you do), and there are nursing jobs everywhere you go. Oh, and one more added bonus...I wouldn't have to go shopping for fancy work clothes...I would wear scrubs, which is pretty much like pajama day every day! :) Hahahahaha! (You know how much I dislike shopping for clothes!)

Well, anyway, I FINALLY decided that I was going to go back to school this fall (after thinking about it & going back & forth about the decision for the past YEAR), and then I got a phone call from a guy at a title company here that found my resume & was VERY interested in talking with me. Kind of funny. He is actually the one who did our closing for our refinance a couple weeks ago. Their office is expanding & they want someone part-time that could help do closings, get the closing packets ready, put together the settlement statements, type closing docs, etc. They would love to have someone that already knows how to do all of that, so they don't have to do much training. He said the hours would be flexible & that they were very interested in me. I told him my thoughts & said that I would get back with him about it.

So after thinking about it AGAIN, I still thought that it would be best for me to go back to school, even though it's pretty scary after being out of college for 17 years! I enjoyed title work and it was fine, but if I went back to that, it would just be a job for the paycheck, and we don't really NEED the money. I still think I would like to finish my degree & do something that I feel like really helps people. But it was flattering that they were so interested in me for the escrow officer position. So, hopefully all goes well with school & I can do it without being too overwhelmed & still be able to do all the regular "mom" things that I need to do each day, raising 4 kiddos & keeping the house together.

So, this week I got everything finalized...I went to the nursing advisement session, I got registered, got my student ID, gave them my old transcripts from USU, and filled out a Degree Audit Request (hopefully all my general classes that I will need for the nursing program, that I've already taken at USU will transfer. I will find out in a couple of weeks). And now I need to review over some math before taking the math placement test in a couple of weeks, then I can register for classes for fall. I still need several prerequisites before starting the nursing program (Math, Anatomy & Physiology I & II, Microbiology, and an Electronic Heath Records computer class. I'll just take a couple classes at a time).

If I think too much about the big picture, I get stressed out. I need to remember to just take one step at a time & I'll be fine. :) I am excited about it too...just hoping that I can do it & juggle all the other stuff I need to do & still give my kids plenty of my time & attention. That is still most important to me. Wish me luck! :)
