"Shocking!"

So, Neil and I have been looking at buying some land for quite some time. We had made an offer on 5 acres about a year ago, but after agreeing on the price, signing the contract, and getting the loan approval, it ended up not working out, because it didn't appraise for enough, and the seller wouldn't drop the price. So we've been looking at some property out in Gravette (about 20 minutes West of Bentonville). Well, we've been looking at this piece of property, talked with the realtor, walked the perimeter with the seller, checked out the schools, and today we attended the ward that's within those boundaries. Well, after going to church, we wanted to go out and see the property one more time and take a picture of it (we are still trying to decide what to do, because it's such a huge decision). Anyway, there are a bunch of cows out there on the property, and they have an electric fence (really only 1 wire about thigh high) to keep the cows from wandering off. I've been really curious about what it would feel like to touch it. So I told Neil to touch it. I DARED him to touch it. He laughed and said he's already touched an electric fence and told me to do it. I said I was curious but didn't want to get electrocuted. I asked him how badly it shocked you, and he said not bad (this from the same guy who would play tricks on other kids when he was young, telling them to just touch the electric fence with a LONGER wire, and it wouldn't hurt so much--yea, that's my husband, the joker.) I was getting the feeling he wanted me to touch it so he could laugh at me when I jerked back, yelling "OUCH, OUCH OUCH!!" So I chickened out, and we stared to drive off. Then I told him to stop. I wanted to try it after all. So, I got out of the van and walked over to the fence. I got close, and touched the wire as quickly as I could, but NOTHING. So, I grabbed the wire. Still NOTHING. Bummer. Apparently it was turned off. Well...so much for living on the edge and being brave and daring. Maybe next time I'll get really brave and not only touch the electric fence, but maybe even do some cow tipping! ha ha ha :)

So what did you think of Gravette? We have a couple of famiies out that way... I'm sure they'd love some neighbors. Of course, we'd love for you to move to our side of the ward! :)

We do like Gravette. Small, hometown feel, and still close to Bentonville. Yes, we know the Birds and Homers are out that way and in your ward. There are also 2 other families out there that go to the Bella Vista Ward, and one family that we know of that goes to the Siloam Springs Ward (that's the ward that we would be in the boundaries to attend). I'm sure with the new church in Centerton getting finished in the spring, that they'll re-align things and we'll end up in the Centerton Ward (or one of the Centerton wards :)) I've talked with Bishop Isabell and Pres. Stout about the boundaries, because I'd want our kids to be going to school with kids from church and seminary. I've talked with several people about the schools out there too, and they love them. They are smaller than in Bentonville, and really good. You guys should join us out there! :) There are still a few tracts for sale in the area that we are going to buy, and it's a great price. It will still be a while, since we'll need to sell our house and then build a new one out there, so we'll see how it all goes...

Here is a tip from an old farm girl- if you want to check if the fence is on without getting a big shock, pick a piece of green grass(long weed) and touch it to the fence. It will conduct a small shock without hurting. This sure takes me back to my childhood though.
