Visit from Grandma & Grandpa

Well, we had a great visit with Grandma & Grandpa Checketts the past few days. They flew in late Wed. night (and got here around midnight, after a 3-hour delay at their connection in Huston). We all went to eat lunch with the kids at school on Thurs. & Fri., they got to see PJ and Jonah both in their soccer games, and Tessa at her riding lesson, which was a lot of fun. The kids got spoiled with lots of treats, eating out, sleeping in, not practicing piano, and playing a lot. It was great!

Then on Saturday, we all went to the Wild Animal Safari that's about 40 minutes from Bentonville. It's amazing all the animals they have there (especially since it's a little tiny town in the middle of nowhere). We had a picnic, and had fun looking at all the animals. Part of it is a drive-through safari, where the animals come right up to your car. We had a camel slobber all over Clay's window, and the Emus loved coming up to look in the windows too. Some of the huge animals with big horns I worried about bumping our car or scratching it, but we got through without any damages. Then we went to the petting zoo part, and the kids got to pet goats, pigs, etc. Clay managed to get pooped on by a goat! GROSS!! We also went to a pumpkin patch and carved pumpkins with the kiddos.

Neil and I were also able to go out on a date, while Grandma and Grandpa watched the kiddos. They had pizza, played on the Wii, and played outside. They all had a blast, and we did too! We even got all our Christmas shopping done--HOORAY!!

One of the days, Neil and his dad did a bunch of yard work, trimming all the shrubs, mowing and edging the lawn, pulling out the garden, etc. The kids helped too, and loved it. They even found a toad in our garden, and wanted to keep it for a pet. I said NO! Then Neil's dad decided to vacuum out our garage for us, with the big shop vac they gave us for Christmas last year (our garage is cleaner than it's been since we moved here!) My father-in-law is really funny about vacuuming. He LOVES to vacuum. He even vacuumed our front step, the sidewalk, and part of the sidewalk down by the street! The kids thought that was pretty cool, and got the proper vacuuming technique lessons from Grandpa. :)

On Sunday, Grandma & Grandpa got to see the kids in our church Primary Program, which was fun for them, and the kids all did a great job. Then on Sunday night, Jonah got really sad and started crying, because Grandma & Grandpa would be leaving the next day, and he would miss them because they are so far away. Poor little guy adores his grandpa! But the kids always bounce back quickly and we get back into our regular routine, and they are fine. It was fun to have them come for a few days. I couldn't be blessed with better in-laws. They are the best, and we all had a great time!
