Great weekend and Tessa's riding show...

Well, we've had another great weekend. It's been VERY busy, but a lot of fun. It started out Friday night with Tessa practicing for her riding show that was on Saturday. She did a great job and was excited & ready (and we were hoping that the weather would cooperate, since it's been rainy & stormy off & on for the past week, and they were predicting more). Right after her lesson, we all headed to the church to help clean for the big Emergency Preparedness Fair that our church was putting on. It's huge & they've done it for the past few years. There are booths there from various businesses (the weather station, fire station, Red Cross (including a blood drive), Life Insurance, food storage, and MUCH more), as well as lots of free things like 72-hour kits (that our church put together during the week), a free lunch of hot dogs, chips, etc., and some fun things for the kids to do. It's become a huge event in the community. Anyway, after all that we headed home & got the kids in bed, because it was about 9 p.m. by then.

Saturday morning we got up & headed to Jonah's soccer practice. He's having a great time in soccer again, and his team has won all the games they've played so far. Then we went from there to Tessa's riding show. She did a great job and came in 3rd place in her category. She was really excited. The horses were kind of wound up and not cooperating very well because of the weather and some horses in the next field that kept running and upsetting the other horses in the show. Tessa's trainer said that before we got there, some of the other horses were doing things like jumping out of the area, bucking, and rearing. So, I was VERY glad that Tessa's horse was so good for her! That's one thing I always worry about--the horse getting spooked or something, and Tessa getting hurt. But she loves riding, so I try not to think about all the things that COULD happen.

After Tessa finished riding, we went out to lunch. We decided to try a new Mexican restaurant in town. It wasn't very good (not very clean, slow service, overpriced for what you get, and it tasted about as good as school lunch! Blah!) But we enjoyed our time together anyway.

Then Neil headed to our church to help with the Emergency Preparedness Fair and I took the kids back to the horse show. They were scheduled to have some horse jumping later on that we wanted to watch. But by the time we got there, the jumping was over. We were kind of disappointed, but stayed to watch a little more anyway. Finally we headed home, I got Clay down for a nap, and started getting things ready for dinner. We were feeding the missionaries that night.

We ended the evening watching a video and having some treats with the kids. It has been a great weekend. VERY busy, but a lot of fun too. And in between all the busyness, the kids found time to play together, building things with legos & k'nex, PJ finished writing his book that he's been working on, and Neil had a good nap in front of some football (the only thing football is REALLY good for!) :)

Oh, and as a side note...I also posted some pictures of the kids in their Halloween costumes. They have been planning what they want to be for the past few months, so I went to the Walmart Associate Store (where everything is marked way down), and bought some costumes. Now we have to WAIT! Poor Clay can't stand it! He wants Halloween to be here RIGHT NOW! :)
