Oh, how I love holidays! I love having time off, without homework, schedules, lessons, work, school, etc. I love letting the kids just relax and play and have fun together, and just hanging out and doing fun things together as a family. This weekend has been so nice! Friday after school the kids all had some friends come and play for a while, then Neil and I took all the kids to watch Tessa at her riding lesson. They always have fun seeing all the horses, and playing with all the cats & dogs around the farm, as well as finding little frogs and bugs. We’d love to have a little farm of our own someday.
Anyway, Saturday morning, Neil and I headed to Oklahoma City, to go to the temple. We had a girl (a Senior in high school that we really trust) come stay with the kids, since it’s an all-day event to go to the temple here. It’s a 4-hour drive one way, then 2 hours in the temple, then stop for a bite to eat, then another 4-hours back (unless you take a wrong turn like we did, then it ended up being closer to 5 hours back—and really ticked us off !!) Anyway, we left at 6 a.m., and didn’t get home until 6 p.m. (to put it in perspective...in the 12 hours that we were gone, we could have been over halfway to Utah!!) We are glad that we went, and it was so nice to have some time alone with Neil, but it makes for a very long day, and we hate to leave the kids with a sitter for that long (besides it’s so expensive!! Between the babysitter, the gas, the tolls, and a meal, we always end up spending $200-$300, depending on if we take the kids and stay in a hotel, or go by ourselves and pay a sitter.) We keep hoping that they’ll build a temple in our area soon (or at least closer than Oklahoma City). We miss the days of being 20 minutes from 4 different temples, and it costing very little (or nothing) to go.
Then, on Monday, we just relaxed and took the kids on a picnic to the park (they all had a coupon for a free kids meal at Chick-Fil-A that they got from school), and walked around a lake, played soccer, and watched a video. It’s just so nice to bum around. Anyway, It’s been a great weekend. Now, back to the regular routine….

I keep hoping for a closer temple, too! I think we got spoiled living in Utah. Good for you for going.
I can't wait for us to get a temple here- one day it will happen, right?!
I forget how spoiled we are. Even when we lived in Michigan, the temple was only a half hour away. It's a 2 hour drive to one from my home town now, but growing up it was a 6 hour drive. Someday your's will be shorter. Keep going and the Lord will provide.
